I took the opportunity to mark the end of the long, cold and dark Norwegian winter to carry out a reconnaissance trip north of Bergen. The purpose of the long weekend was to validate some client accommodation and check out gravel trail alternatives for inclusion on the Norsebound "Coast Tour" itinerary. I was not disappointed, and neither will you be.
Gualarfjellet, one of Norway's 18 designated National Tourist Roads, is home to some spectacular sites, one of which is this church. Originally of a Stave design, a church has stood on this location since 1321.
Another outstanding spot worth stopping at on National Tourist Route "Gualarfjellet" is Likholefossen, characterised by this stainless steel bridge crossing the Gaular river system. A total of 28 waterfalls can be viewed along the Gualar watercourse.
Not a bad view to wake up to on your Norsebound Coastal Tour. This view looks west towards Dale along Dalsfjorden.
And this view looks east towards Bygstad along Dalsfjorden.
Ten kilometres of gravel that takes you high up into the Gualar mountains. A tractor trail at the end is yet to be explored!
This is a quality gravel track for the expert and novice alike, taking you from sea (fjord) level to 225 MSL and the tranquil backside surroundings of Laukelandshesten (678m).
